The Washington Wizards are entering a pivotal offseason with the chance to land a top draft prospect on top of what many hope to be a playoff roster as soon as next season.
Still, the most talked-about topic following exit meetings on Monday stems from the comments from superstar forward Anthony Davis, who made his commitment to the team crystal clear, while managing to still highlight his hope to find out if the team's vision matches the timeline he has in his head.
With that said, many wondered if the big man could be a potential flight risk moving forward, especially if the team's updated timeline doesn't align closely with Davis'.
However, general manager Will Dawkins' recent statement on The Sports Junkies radio show made it clear that the team had a plan in place when they made the bold swing to land Davis ahead of the NBA trade deadline, and it hasn't changed.
Wizards plan for AD to be apart of their future regardless of noise
In Dawkins' latest appearance on the DMV's local radio show, the general manager made the expectations for Davis clear.
“We traded for Anthony Davis to be here and play for us, and that’s the plan," Dawins said. "We’re excited to have him around.”
Dawkins' comments should shut down any talk about whether or not the big man could attempt to force his way out of D.C., especially after the playmaker has already gone on record to speak highly about the team's decision makers during the early stages of his arrival.
Anthony Davis isn't going anywhere anytime soon
Davis already made it clear with his blunt remarks about his love for money that he doesn't plan to walk away from his lucrative contract anytime soon.
Beyond that, Washington has proven they're ready to make win-now moves, especially after landing Trae Young alongside Davis at the deadline.
The Wizards have a healthy mix of young pieces and savvy veterans, and with another masterclass offseason in the coming months, there's no telling just how far the team could go if they're able to stack the right pieces to the puzzle.
If Washington can get Davis to buy into what they're building and help lure talent to the nation's capital, there's no reason why the team can't have a quick rise in the East similar to the Detroit Pistons, who now find themself as the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference entering the postseason.
